More information :

The Company of Prayer and Death, or Company of the Good Death, was founded in 1572 to organize a service of prayer, transportation, and burial of the deceased.

In addition, its members assisted those condemned to death and buried those who had left no money for their own burial.

The members of the Company obtained the Church of San Silvestro, documented since the 13th century, as their headquarters and rebuilt it with the title of Santa Croce.

The interior, a single hall, is characterized by a wooden coffered ceiling with a high relief carved and painted in 1618, probably by Niccolò di Smeraldo Salvi.

Various symbols of the Passion are depicted, with Christ emerging from the coffin supported by two angels at the center.

The side walls depict episodes from the Passion of Christ. The artist had already created a wooden statue of Christ tied to the Column for the same Company.

The rooms above house a collection of objects from the Confraternity of Mercy.
