More information :

The Civic Archaeological Museum of Castiglion Fiorentino was founded in 2001 to exhibit the materials found during archaeological investigations carried out in the area and in particular the extraordinary discoveries made in the Piazzale del Cassero and referable to a sanctuary present in the ancient settlement of Castiglion Fiorentino.

The main exhibition core is located on the top floor of the Palazzo Pretorio: the route is divided into five rooms dedicated to various themes, with archaeological evidence ranging from the Final Bronze Age to the Late Antiquity period and beyond.

Of note are the reconstruction of the roof of the Etruscan sanctuary (late 5th-2nd century BC), the Brolio and Montecchio deposit and the finds from the Etruscan site of Brolio Melmone. On display in the medieval section are archaic and Renaissance majolica from the 9th century.

The underground archaeological route of the Cassero includes part of the areas investigated during numerous excavation campaigns. The continuity of life present in this archaeological site is extraordinary and constitutes the true thread of this exhibition, starting from the evidence of the first Etruscan settlement (8th century BC) up to the medieval era.
